2007 has proven to be another significant year for Spatial Vision with the company achieving record revenues and a growth in staff numbers in excess of 40%. This year has reinforced the fact that Spatial Vision is now active in all States and Territories in Australia providing a nationally significant range of services.
This year's results could not have been possible with the support of our clients and we thank you for your continued patronage. It is also is dependent on the efforts of our fabulous staff.
Spatial Vision will close from approximately 5pm on Friday 21st December and will reopen 9am Monday 31st December.

WHAT'S NEW FROM SPATIAL VISION?
1. NSW DECC - Vegetation Information System
To enhance the ability of the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) to meet its core business responsibilities, the Department wanted to introduce effective 'single point of truth' data management practices for all critical vegetation data. This project is called Standardising NSW Native Vegetation Data. A central element of this approach is the design and development of a NSW Vegetation Information System (VIS) to facilitate better collection, management, access and integration of native vegetation information.

2. Context Heritage Award
Spatial Vision would like to congratulate Context Pty Ltd on its success in winning the inaugural Heritage Award at the annual Planning Institute of Australia (Victorian Division) awards held recently in Melbourne.
Context, in conjunction with Melbourne Water, prepared a Conservation Management Plan (CMP) for the Yan Yean Water Supply System which extends from catchment areas in the Great Dividing Range through constructed reservoirs and weirs into inner suburban Melbourne. Spatial Vision assisted Context by providing mapping support for this project.

3. eFarmer Prototype Lives On
In 2006, the Victorian State Government, working closely with a number of Catchment Management Authorities CMAs, developed and trialed a web-based application called eFarmer, which supports the capture, viewing and sharing Natural Resource Management information across farms, landscapes and catchments. In 2007, eFarmer is being used in a trial with dairy farmers in Gippsland being run by DPI, the Murray Goulburn Cooperative and the local Catchment Management Authority.

4. Vegetation Assessment in the Field - PDA Habitat Assessments
The Victorian Department of Sustainability & Environment (DSE) recently commissioned Spatial Vision to enhance their mobile application for native vegetation assessments. In 2004, DSE's Forest Information Products group developed an electronic survey for assessing Native Vegetation based on the Victorian Native Vegetation Assessment Guidelines. The survey tool was developed as a mobile application using ESRI's ArcPad software.

5. Spatial Traveling with Lonely Planet
Spatial Vision has recently commenced work on the design and development of a new Map Production Platform for Lonely Planet Publications. The project will deliver a new GIS based hard copy mapping platform based on the latest database driven cartographic technology.

Vicmap Book News:
6. Vicmap Book 'Interactive' DVD Now Available
The Vicmap Book 'Interactive' DVD produced by Spatial Vision is now available available for those who require topographic maps of the State at their finger tips without the need for expensive GIS mapping software.The Vicmap Book 'Interactive' DVD features state-wide map coverage in OziExplorer format and includes a free PC map viewer (OziExplorer Lite).

7. Vicmap Book Image - single statewide image now available from Spatial Vision
Spatial Vision has now completed a single state-wide map image of Victoria available as an ECW file for use as a backdrop in GIS such as ESRI and MapInfo. The image is a mosaic composed in a large part of the 1:100,000 map pages of Spatial Vision's popular Vicmap Book, supplemented, around the Melbourne metropolitan area, with map imagery generated from other sources.

8. Vicmap Incremental Update Format
As mentioned in the last Spatial Vision newsletter DSE has decided that from 2008, Vicmap Incremental Update Format (IUF) Files will be supplied on a weekly frequency as opposed to the current fortnightly frequency.

EmerGeo News:
9. EMA Install
Emergency Management Australia provides national leadership in the development of measures to reduce the risk and manage the consequence of disasters. A key service provided by EMA is developing the capacity of communities to mitigate, manage and recover from disasters. To support this role, the EMA Institute (EMAI) based in Mt Macedon, Victoria has purchased EmerGeo to demonstrate the significant role that GIS can play in supporting emergency management especially in Emergency Coordination Centres (ECC).

10. Emergeo - Next Release
EmerGeo Solutions of Vancouver, B.C. is please to announce the release of Version 3.6 of its EmerGeo emergency mapping software application in December 2007.
EmerGeo is used by many government and industry organizations to collect, analyze, track and communicate critical information before, during and after any type of emergency or disaster.

11. National Postcode Mapping for Australia Post
Australia Post run the National Excellence award program to assist recognition and encouragement of excellence in a range of categories throughout their organisation. In 2007, the Operations Technology & Data Services section won a National Excellence - Innovative Achievement award for their web mapping application, Postcode Maps, (PCMaps), a system developed and hosted for Australia Post by Spatial Vision

This edition's technical tip explains the Documenting Tools and Scripts using ArcToolBox application. ArcGIS provides the user with a powerful capability to extending the base geoprocessing toolset with the ability to create new toolsets that can be combinations of geoprocessing models or scripts.
