What's New from Spatial Vision:
1. Victorian Whole-of-Government E-Services Panel
The procurement of web development services from Spatial Vision by Victorian
government agencies has been made much easier. Multimedia Victoria has
established the “Whole of Victorian Government eServices Panel”
to streamline the purchasing of eServices.
Spatial
Vision has been appointed to the Panel as a provider of Web Development
Services.

2. “Under the Hood” Sessions Great Success
Spatial Vision conducted a very successful and well attended series
of workshop sessions during April and May in Melbourne and Sydney. These
sessions were the first in an on-going series providing technical and
case study information regarding adoption of geospatial technology.
The
first round of workshops addressed options for implementing ESRI’s
ArcIMS application and included a range of fully operational case studies
exploring the various models for deploying this leading technology.
Watch
this space for information regarding future “Under the Hood”
sessions planned for later this year.
New Projects:
3. National Oceans Office
The National Oceans Office has selected Spatial Vision to produce a
National Marine Atlas showing the non-fisheries uses of Australia’s
marine jurisdiction. Preparation of the Atlas will involve collecting
and collating marine datasets of various standards and formats into
a set of products for the National Oceans Office.

4. Interactive Fire Management Strategy CD-ROMThe
New South Wales National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) contracted
Spatial Vision to prepare an interactive format CD for the draft Sydney
Basin Fire Management Strategy.
Initially
the CD prepared by Spatial Vision will be made available within the
NPWS to garner feedback on the contents of the draft management strategy
as well as the new interactive format.

5. Updated Emergency Management Plan
Spatial Vision recently completed an update of the interactive version
of City of Monash’s Emergency Management Plan (EMP). The 2003
Monash EMP includes the full text of the plan, updated contact details
and an expanded range of maps including a stormwater theme (showing
drainage networks and contours) and a one kilometre buffer area of the
surrounding councils. It has been deployed to stakeholder agencies including
Police, SES, Department of Human Services and surrounding councils.
For
further details about interactive EMP, please contact Malcolm McKenzie
at City of Monash on phone (03) 9518 3746 or Graeme Martin at Spatial
Vision.

6. NSW Geological Mapping
The Cartographic Section of the Geological Survey, group in NSW Department
of Minerals and Resources (DMR), recently contracted Spatial Vision
to create geological data and a base map series for the Tamworth Transect
Area, covering approximately 1,600 square kilometres. Spatial Vision
has also created an underlying 1:50,000 base map using LPI topographic
data.

7. Priority Action Information System
Spatial Vision has been contracted by the Parks, Flora and Fauna (PFF)
division of the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) in
Victoria to develop a new web-delivered application to assist in the
management of endangered items (species, communities etc). The Priority
Actions Information System (PAIS) will enable PFF staff to record details
of endangered items, their most important habitat locations and priority
actions to be undertaken in support of them.
PAIS
will be developed as a Java/JSP web application using an Oracle RDBMS
and ESRI ArcSDE/ArcIMS spatial infrastructure.

New Products:
8. Record Locations via the Web - TRACTUS
Spatial Vision has launched “Tractus” in response to demand
for an easy-to-use web-based product for creating spatial data that
can be fully attributed and stored with corporate spatial data.
Tractus
enables end-users to create points, lines and polygons for defined spatial
layers and store these with attributes in their corporate database so
they may become broadly accessible.

Conferences:
9. 2003 NSW State of GIS (SOGIS) Forum
Stephen Farrell and Graeme Martin attended the recent SOGIS forum held
in Sydney. The AURISA-organised forum was well attended and the Spatial
Vision trade stand received a lot of attention. Stephen presented a
conference paper with Robert Mezzatesta from the National Parks &
Wildlife Service on an innovative approach to distributing native vegetation
management plans in Western Sydney. The plans were distributed on CD
with an interactive interface developed by Spatial Vision.
The
conference season is about to open in earnest. It seems that the July
to October period is becoming increasingly crowded with conferences.
You will be able to catch up with members of Spatial Vision at the following
forums in July and August.
10. Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA) Annual
Conference
GITA is considered the premier asset management forum for utilities,
transport, telecommunications and other government service sectors.
This year’s annual conference will be in Sydney on 18 –
20 August. Graeme Martin will presenting a paper on Wednesday 20th on
Water Authorities Investing in Enterprise-Wide GIS.
11. ESRI Australia’s Annual OZRI Conference
This year’s annual ESRI confest of technology will be held in
Adelaide on 12 – 13 August. Spatial Vision will there with bells
on! Well, we will have a trade stand and will be demonstrating a range
of recent client projects.
Project Outcomes:
12. Harnessing local knowledge for fire map books
The Country Fire Authority’s rural map directories are fundamental
tools for the fire brigades and other emergency services to respond
to incidents. Spatial Vision is completing two regional directories
for the CFA. The approach taken by Spatial Vision will harness the knowledge
of local brigades and further enhance base datasets on which all emergency
service organisations depend.
