Keeping your Vicmap Data Up-to-Date
Nexus
Nexus is an ArcGIS Tool that enables you to easily and efficiently integrate
Vicmap Incremental Update File (IUF) data updates with your corporate data holdings.
Land Victoria’s Vicmap Property and Address data are frequently critical
to the operation of many organisations. Vicmap Property and Address data are
being updated constantly. These updates are available to data licence holders
as whole-files every four to six weeks or as incremental updates every two weeks.
The whole-file versions are much larger files, slower to load and do not provide
a record of changes made since the last update.
The incremental update files however contain only features that have changed
since the previous update. They are much smaller, and are typically able to
be delivered by e-mail as ZIP files.
Nexus is a product developed by Spatial Vision to enable you to easily and
quickly manage the importation of one or more incremental update files into
your corporate copy of Vicmap Property and Address.
Features of Nexus
■ Enables Users to regularly and efficiently update
their copy of Vicmap Property and Address
■ Only updates changes to data instead of replacing
the whole data file
■ Generates data in an ESRI geodatabase using
AGD66 or GDA94 dataums (other formats and projections are
available)
■ Can be used for single or multiple Local Government
Areas, or state-wide
■ Allows users to create change-only versions
of datasets for review before proceeding with integration
■ Whilst IUF are issued every 2 weeks, Nexus allows
updates of corporate data at any frequency (monthly, quarterly,
etc)
■ Nexus runs on a standard PC running ESRI’s
ArcGIS 8.x.
■ Nexus is easy to use and supplied with system
documentation
What are Vicmap Property IUF?
Vicmap Property IUF are provided as sequential XML files.
An IUF is generated for each Local Government Area, every
two weeks. Each IUF comprises a list of instructions indicating
whether a feature has been deleted, changed or inserted. The
Vicmap Property IUF can be used to generate Vicmap Property
and Vicmap Address digital products.

How do I use Nexus?
- The User initially loads a full version of the Property
and Address data (ver. 0)
- IUF are received by the User (typically via e-mail) from
the Data Maintainer (via Land Victoria) with changed features
that have been processed over the last 2 weeks.
- The User runs Nexus which unzips the IUF files, imports
them into a spatial database that enables the Client to review
the changes.
- Folllowing review, the User then directs Nexus to complete
the integration of the changed features with the User’s
previous version of Vicmap Property and Address.
- Spatial Vision is an authorised Data Service Provider (DSP)
for Vicmap digital data products and can offer comprehensive
advice regarding the supply and management of Vicmap Digital
data.
Caveats:
- Spatial Vision will licence Users to deploy the application
within their organisation for their own business purposes.
- A User requires a current licensed copy of Vicmap Address
and/or Vicmap Property to be able to utilise Nexus.
- The purchase of a licence for Nexus from Spatial Vision
includes the first 12 month’s maintenance and support.
There after, the User will be invoiced for the next twelve
months in advance. Maintenance includes the provision of software
updates and amendments.
- Spatial Vision has taken great care to develop Nexus to
accurately depict Land Victoria data products. However, Spatial
Vision does not take financial or legal responsibility for
any issues that arise from the User’s operation of the
Nexus product nor does Spatial Vision warrant the accuracy
or completeness of information generated.
- The Property and Vicmap Address products generated from
IUF may differ in structure from the equivalent products supplied
as whole files.
Nexus was developed and is fully maintained by Spatial Vision.
