ESRI GIS Software

ESRI GIS software is recognised as well proven and world leading technology. Over a 1,000,000 people in more than 229 countries use ESRI's GIS technologies to improve the way their organisations conduct business every day.

Founded in 1969, ESRI's GIS solutions are emerging as an integral component in nearly every type of business and government service. ESRI is committed to ongoing development of their products that continue to make them scalable, integrated and more accessible especially through the Internet.

As a strategic Business Partner of ESRI Australia, Spatial Vision is an authorised retailer of the latest ESRI suite of software. Our staff have extensive expertise in the deployment and use of ESRI GIS software and can provide advice on the software most suitable to your requirements and can assist you to implement it.

ESRI designated Spatial Vision as the ESRI New Business Partner of the Year for 2002.

ArcGIS - ArcInfo, ArcEditor and ArcView

ESRI's powerful ArcGIS is available as a range of products from ArcView for powerful desktop query, analysis and mapping, ArcEditor which adds full data capture and editing capability to ArcInfo which adds extensive data importing and exporting capability and geoprocessing functionality. A summary of the specific functionality of each of these products is attached.

Underpinning the applications is the "geodatabase", a highly structured way of storing intelligent GIS data. The geodatabase allows an organisation's spatial and aspatial data to be combined in a single data model to ensure maximum integration and consistency. The geodatabase also allows the definition of business rules and relationships that enforce data quality and consistency as it is captured and maintained.

ArcGIS is built on open standards, supporting in particular ODBC for open database connectivity and COM for Windows level application integration and compatibility with all major Windows development environments.

Arc Spatial Database Engine (ArcSDE)

ArcSDE is the GIS gateway that facilitates managing spatial data in a database management system. ArcSDE allows you to manage geographic information in one of four commercial databases: IBM DB2, Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle. ArcSDE serves spatial data to the ArcGIS Desktop (ArcView, ArcEditor, and ArcInfo) products. ArcSDE also serves through ArcIMS for web based delivery. ArcIMS is the key component in managing a multi-user spatial database.

Arc Internet Map Server (ArcIMS)

ArcIMS is ESRI's web-based mapping server. It provides the underlying connection to a broad range of spatial data resources and the map generation capabilities. ArcIMS is able to access a broad range of spatial data types including ArcSDE datasets, shapefiles and geo-referenced images. As well as underpinning EView, ArcIMS is an open server with a series of Connectors that allow its functionality to be accessed from a variety of development environments including Java servlets, C++, ASP, ActiveX and ColdFusion. With these tools plugged in at the ArcIMS server level, the client is free to develop a broad range of customised applications for internet or extranet deployment, using the most appropriate environment and still leverage the full power of the ArcIMS map services. ArcIMS is available on both Windows NT and UNIX servers and its licensing also provides for an unlimited number of clients to be connected, subject to resource requirements.

Enterprise View (EView)

EView is a portal application that integrates spatial and textual datasets to deliver a comprehensive view of an organisation's information. Developed in Melbourne by ESRI Australia and built on ESRI ArcIMS web services software, EView has been deployed to many medium-sized organisations in Australia and New Zealand including many local government authorities, utilities and water authorities. EView enables the corporate and business spatial data to be integrated with business data sources in real-time to provide seamless querying, display and reporting. As a web-delivered application, the EView user requires only a browser to access it. EView is licensed by server so there are no per-user licence costs to pay when scaling up to deploy EView across the entire organisation.

ArcPad

For mobile use, ESRI's ArcPad software is an easy-to-use, lightweight, low-cost solution for mobile mapping and geographic information systems. ArcPad enhances portable touch screen computers with intuitive mapping, GIS, and GPS functionality. ArcPad makes field data collection fast and easy, improves data accuracy, and provides immediate data availability and validation. Connected via a mobile telephone or radio-modem, ArcPad can access data layers published by an ArcIMS server in real-time, allowing field-based enquiry and data capture based on centrally held and served corporate datasets.
