Press Release - January 11 2006
Geoscience Australia has selected Spatial Vision to develop
a new web mapping site to be known as the Australian Marine
Spatial Information System (AMSIS). AMSIS will build on work
already undertaken in the definition of Australia’s
maritime boundaries. It will accurately locate marine features
including interests and rights over the Australian Marine
Jurisdiction.
AMSIS will be developed using Geoscience Australia’s
extensive spatial infrastructure and will be based on Open
Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards. It will utilize the
Internet Mapping Framework to deliver the web interface and
will provide a number of customized functions such as the
ability to enquire on the legal interests at a location or
to determine the distance from a given location to a selected
maritime boundary such as our Exclusive Economic Zone.
AMSIS will include a comprehensive range of map layers such
as maritime boundaries and related themes. The open source
University of Minnesota MapServer software will be used to
deliver the WMS and WFS services which will underpin AMSIS.
Spatial Vision is providing technical specification, development
and deployment services to Geoscience Australia. AMSIS will
undergo a period of beta testing before being publicly released.
