Press Release - July 23 2004
Spatial Vision has again been selected by the Victorian
Country Fire Authority (CFA) to reproduce one of its map book
series. The new map book focuses on those areas fringing Melbourne’s
metropolitan area for which the CFA is responsible. Given
the large numbers of people living and working in these areas
(which include the Dandenong Ranges), this map book is critical
in ensuring an effective response by CFA brigades. The new
map book will replace a publication previously known as ESMAP.
The original ESMAP was developed in 1991 by the predecessor
to Land Victoria, in conjunction with the Country Fire Authority,
and used early digital topographic mapping to create a street
directory meeting emergency service requirements.
Melbourne’s outer urban areas have experienced rapid
growth during Melbourne’s sustained housing boom. This
new map book will show the greatly expanded areas of urban
development that have taken place over the last decade.
The publication will comprise over 100 maps representing
regions at 1:50,000 and township at 1:25,000. An important
feature of the new map book is that it will use a version
of the base spatial data consistent with that used in other
areas of the emergency response sector. The new map book will
use Land Victoria’s standard Vicmap digital data for
base topographic and transport themes. Part of the CFA map
book contract provides the option for developing a series
of wall posters based on the map book data for brigade offices.
Most importantly, digital data from the new mapping will be
provided to Emergency Communications Victoria (ECV) for use
in the State’s Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
This is the third map book prepared by Spatial Vision for
the CFA.
