Press Release - April 30th 2007
Spatial Vision recently held a workshop for the Victorian emergency management community to demonstrate and discuss strategic directions for cross-agency approaches to emergency management. The workshop was attended by representatives of all the major emergency management response and dispatch agencies. The presentations demonstrated examples of cross-agency and jurisdiction approaches to sharing information to support better preparation, response and recovery to emergency incidents.
The presenters included Mark Taylor from WA Fire Emergency Services Authority (FESA) describing the challenges of implementing WA's Shared Land Information Platform (SLIP) for coordinated Emergency Management. Sgt. Dave McCutcheon introduced the WA Police approach to web-based Incident Management System to support operational policing and potential relationships to other state and national EM responses.
Other initiatives presented included the new National Biosecurity Application (BioSIRT) and the latest status on the implementation of a national approach to mapping symbols for all hazards. Finally, Prof. John Handmer from RMIT's Centre for Risk and Community Safety commented on the Strategic Contribution of IT for Emergency Management.
Feedback from participants indicated that the workshop was very well received and was considered an excellent means of getting exposure to national projects involving a range of agencies.
This free workshop was an initiative of Spatial Vision. Last year, Spatial Vision organised a similar event in Sydney attended by NSW Police, Fire Service, Rural Fire Service, Departments of Commerce, Environment & Conservation, Lands, Health, City of Sydney and Sydney Water.
