DECC Vegetation Information System User Requirements

View Press Release ( 86kb)

NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) is the lead agency for state-wide reporting on the biodiversity, native vegetation and threatened species. To enhance the Departments ability to meet these core business responsibilities, the Department is introducing effective ‘single point of truth' data management practices for all critical vegetation data. This project is called Standardising NSW Native Vegetation Data. A central element of this approach is the design and development of a NSW Vegetation Information System (VIS) to facilitate better collection, management, access and integration of native vegetation information.

Spatial Vision has been contracted by DECC to identify and document the User Requirements for the VIS. This contract includes establishment of business needs and user requirements, documentation of functional specifications and a recommended strategy for implementation. These outcomes will be used in the system design and development of VIS. To undertake the project, Spatial Vision will be consulting with a broad range of native vegetation management and reporting practitioners. The consultation will engage DECC officers across the state, as well as other agencies, catchment management authorities, local government, non-government organisations, as well as federal government agencies.
