Press Release - January 11 2006
Spatial Vision recently assisted Southern Rural Water (SRW)
in the preparation of an Atlas for the Macalister Irrigation
District (MID). The Atlas summarises key information and the
physical attributes of the MID. The Atlas has been developed
by Southern Rural Water as a platform for consultation with
stakeholders during the preparation of a 25 year strategic
plan for the MID, known as the MID 2030 strategy. The Atlas
will also serve a purpose of its own as a reference for other
studies.
The Atlas was been prepared as a colour A3 document. It has
three key sections which focus on customers, water, and environmental
issues for the region. Themes covered under each section include:
Customers: Landuse, Soil Types, Farm Improvements, Irrigation
Methods, Service Levels.
Water: Bulk Water Movement, Supply System, Supply Assets,
Drainage System, Groundwater.
Environment: Environmental Assets, Watertable Depth and Land
Salinisation.
The Atlas forms part of an information kit for the MID that
also includes a CD ROM product that contains packaged spatial
datasets and viewer to support a basic analysis of key data
themes. Both the atlas and CD products are to provide:
- a profile of the MID through a combination of maps and
supporting text, quantifying its customer base and enterprise
types, irrigation supply system, drainage system, groundwater
and river diversions, the environment;
- a brief history on the region, focussed on changes since
the MID commenced; and
- a description of the role played by SRW in the region,
particularly its role as a supplier of irrigation and drainage
services.
The intended users of the information kit are current customers,
stakeholders and also parties interested in investment or
development opportunities in the MID. For further information
