The PEMS Demonstrator is a collaboration through the CRC for Spatial Information (CRCSI) and brings together a host of partners including the Victorian Departments of Sustainability and Environment, Justice, and Primary Industries; Geoscience Australia and Spatial Vision. PEMS is one of a number of demonstrator projects supported by the Centre.

The term ‘PEMS' stands for Platform for Environmental Modelling Support.  The objective of the full PEMS Production system is to develop an economic and effective means to integrate spatial information from a variety of sources to support commonly required query, analytical and modelling tasks. It is proposed that this be achieved through a shared infrastructure model so that participating users and organisations can integrate and aggregate their data based on a set of standards to support existing and new business activities while avoiding the need to invest in expensive stand-alone SI infrastructure.

The purpose of the PEMS Demonstrator Project is to undertake a thorough evaluation of the required core technical components and user interaction experience, and to support the development of a suitable case for the larger scale development.

This project is being conducted within the CRCSI, established and supported under the Australian Government's Cooperative Research Programme.

Work on Phase 1 of the PEMS Demonstrator project, which involves the preparation of a technical and functional specification for the PEMS Demonstrator, commenced in February 2007 and is scheduled to be completed in June 2007.

Spatial Vision* is responsible for the development of the PEMS Demonstrator system. DSE is managing the project on behalf of the CRCSI. Other project participants are supporting the project by contributing specific modelling expertise and experience.
