Vicmap Data Provider to Victoria Police

View Press Release ( 38kb)

In June, Spatial Vision was appointed as Victoria Police's provider of Vicmap digital data.

Victoria Police uses Vicmap digital data for dispatch and crime analysis. There are 230 users of the data across Victoria, which is distributed in MapInfo tab format.

As part of the data supply, Spatial Vision was required to provide a full Vicmap digital data supply in MapInfo tab and ESRI Shapefile format. Victoria Police also requested that we provide them with data formatted so that it meets the requirements of existing users and systems. The formatting required Spatial Vision to concatenate data fields within Vicmap digital, remove fields that were superfluous to the requirements of field users and manually review the tram and railway features to ensure connectivity. The data files were indexed to allow faster statewide searching and major roads were symbolised to police specifications.

The process of providing the data in formats that met Police requirements was undertaken in consultation with staff in the Victoria Police GIS Service group and State Intelligence group. Sample datasets were provided and data supply processes adjusted to ensure that the final data met Victoria Police Requirements.
