First Iteration of Victorian Topographic Map Program Completed

View Press Release ( 89kb)

Complete coverage of high quality topographic mapping is now available for Victoria. In August thus year, Spatial Vision released the South East Vicmap Book, the last piece of the jigsaw in Spatial Vision's award-winning topographic map book series. This completes Spatial Vision's state-wide mapping coverage of Victoria.

According to Glenn Cockerton, Spatial Vision's Managing Director, "The Vicmap Book series has been enthusiastically embraced by Victoria's emergency services, government, industry and the general public."

"Completion of this comprehensive and up-to-date state-wide coverage opens up an exciting range of mapping possibilities. In addition to the five hard copy Vicmap Books, Spatial Vision is now able to offer seamless mosaics or tiled map images (either state-wide or regional) for use in virtually every mainstream GIS system. These maps are also available for use by digital applications running on readily available PDA and GPS units. A wide range of companion hard copy products are available including large format sheet mapping, wall maps, township maps and map posters."

"This mapping is being used to support Spatial Vision's special purpose and custom mapping services, tourism and regional promotional programs; local government service directories and regional guides; parks and reserve management plans; and a wide range of other mapping projects."

"Work has already commenced on the next edition of the Vicmap Book series with three new books due for release in 2008. The Central Vicmap Book will be available in March with updated versions of the North-West and South-West Books to be released later in the year."

"Spatial Vision is working very closely with the Department of Sustainability and Environment and the Country Fire Authority to ensure the new books not only include the most recent government-sourced data but that this data has been subject to significant review and update processes.  A wide range of additional features are planned ensuring that Edition 2 will continue the Vicmap Book's high standards."

Spatial Vision's Vicmap Books were awarded the Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Award "People and Community" Award in 2006.
