Press Release - March 30
2004
Many organisations are considering mobile computing as a
means to improve the efficiency of their business. However,
as they haven’t previously used mobile applications
and related technologies they find it difficult to identify
how it would be deployed and the potential benefits.
Spatial Vision is pleased to announce that it will freely
make available a customised Mobile Compliance Application
to organisations who wish to evaluate the potential value
of mobile computing applications. The Mobile Compliance Application
runs on a standard hand held device running ESRI’s ArcPad
software and a GPS. The mobile application was originally
developed for the City of Monash who kindly allowed the application
to be made available to other organisations.
The application was specifically designed to assist field
officers who make inspections of properties for compliance
with local laws on vegetation encroaching on footpaths. Registered
users of the application will receive documentation to assist
them to tailor it to other inspection types. The application
includes a desktop database for synchronizing updates from
the handheld device. The application also includes a sample
area of Vicmap digital mapping courtesy of Land Victoria.
“Our objective for giving away the application is to
enable organizations to experience how mobile computing may
assist them and also develop a deeper understanding of the
issues involved in effectively deploying it”, says Graeme
Martin, Spatial Vision’s Business Development Executive.
