Press Release - July 23 2004
Country Fire Authority (CFA) map books are extensively utilised
by TXU and t squared utility staff especially Network Controllers,
Fault Crews and Planners. t squared (an alliance between Tenix
and TXU), manage the electrical distribution network for the
eastern half of regional Victoria on behalf of TXU. The CFA
map grid references are used in the utility’s internal
AMFM asset and PowerON operational management systems and
provide critical details for every point on TXU’s extensive
electrical network. The map cross-referencing is particularly
useful for Network Controllers who direct fault crews to incidents.
This functionality was used extensively during the January
– February 2003 alpine bushfires to direct CFA and Department
of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) crews, water bombing
aircraft and TXU faults and maintenance crews. In conjunction
with DSE situation reports and TXU’s AMFM system, CFA
map books were also used to locate fire fronts in relation
to TXU assets.
To improve response times to incidents and planning for infrastructure
maintenance, t squared commissioned Spatial Vision to create
a single book of maps displaying all TXU assets over the relevant
pages of CFA map books covering eastern Victoria. The t squared/TXU
map books will display TXU’s network, sub-zone stations
and switches using the same method for designating operating
voltage and switches as that used in TXU’s AMFM system
.
The new t squared/TXU map books will depict regional areas
and townships at various scales. To enable t squared/TXU to
maintain and update areas of the network that experience change
or future growth, the map books will be bound so they can
be readily updated on a six monthly cycle. The books will
be distributed to office and field staff and designed to withstand
operational wear and tear.
