Press Release - December 3 2007

Vicmap Incremental Update Format

As mentioned in the last Spatial Vision newsletter DSE has decided that from 2008, Vicmap Incremental Update Format (IUF) Files will be supplied on a weekly frequency as opposed to the current fortnightly frequency.  DSE has assured clients that there will be no need to change the existing data model for IUF and that the only change will be in the frequency of the delivery of the files.  DSE has informed Spatial Vision that the new Seed file for IUFs is due in late January 2008.  The delivery of weekly updates will commence following the delivery of the Seed file.

Some other changes that DSE are proposing to Vicmap data are;

Change #64 - The new dataset, DSE_REGION will soon appear in Vicmap Admin.

Change #70 - The superseded electoral boundaries for STATE_COUNCIL_1991, STATE_COUNCIL_2001, and STATE_ASSEMBLY_1991 will not be in your next supply of Vicmap Admin.

Change #72  - Removal of Fences from Vicmap Features.  Please not that the unmaintained dataset VMFEAT.IN_FENCE will be removed from Vicmap Features after January 21st 2008.

Change #73 - Change to  Graphic Type Domain in Vicmap Property, Property View table.  This is designed to better deal with Strata Titles and other situations where a number of properties are co-located at a single Parcel of Land.  In the past, the property on which a strata title sat was known as the "Footprint" property and the properties on that "Footprint" were known as "Base" properties.  The change to be implemented will involve the Footprint becoming the base property while properties which are linked to the Base property will become "Primary" Properties.  All stand-alone properties will become "Primary" properties.  The change is designed to better reflect work practices within LGAs and will be in the IUF Seed files to be introduced in January 2008.

Change #74 - Change to Address Type Domain in the Address Table.  Vicmap Address contains Vicmap Address contains an attribute named Address type with the following valid values: P = Property Polygon Point indicating that the address point is somewhere in the property polygon but not a standard location. Until recently it could have been at the parcel/property centroid or located at the centre of the property road frontage. A = Property Access Point indicating the address point represents the location of the property access point and is normally associated with a Rural Road Number (RRN)

The current reference category codes of ‘P' & ‘A' are unfortunately the same as P = Proposed & A = Approved in the property_status field and this has caused some stakeholder confusion. To remove this confusion, it has been decided to change the domain of Address type to the following:

  • E = Entrance Point - this indicates the address point is located at an offset from a property entrance or access point
  • V = Virtual Point - this indicates the address point is somewhere in the property polygon ( unless the outside_property = Y)

If you would like further information on any of the items in the Vicmap corner or would like a quote for Vicmap data or other Land Victoria datasets, please call Jeremy Alcorn at Spatial Vision on 03 9691 3000 or email data@spatialvision.com.au.
