Press Release -20 September 2007
Spatial Vision won two awards at the 2007 Victorian Spatial
Excellence Awards (VSEA) held at the Regent Theatre in September.
- In the People and Community Category, Spatial Vision and
the Victorian Office of the Emergency Service Commissioner,
won an award for the Wildfire Asset Identification
and Consequence of Loss Evaluation Project.
The Judges said: "The Wildfire Project demonstrates coordination
across key emergency service organisations together with local
government. This complex and difficult task is made easier
by an agreed classification system for assets in combination
with spatial datasets. The system also provides emergency
managers with an assessment of consequence of loss, enabling
informed prioritisation of deployment if resources in an emergency
response."
"For the first time this information can also be incorporated
into the strategic planning and operational response activities
involved in wildfire management. The conduct of the project
has built up significant good will between the key agencies
responsible for wildfire management in Victoria. The outputs
of the project have application across other sectors, to other
States, and at the National level."
- Spatial Vision, in conjunction with the Inter-Governmental
Committee for Spatial Management, won the Spatial Strategy
Category for: Defining a National Standard for Emergency
Management Symbology - the Australasian All Hazards Symbology
Project.
The Judges said: “This project addressed a critical
strategic issue in Australia’s information management
standards for emergency management. It was an outstanding
example of close collaboration between the participants -
ICSM, ANZLIC, EMSINA, EMA, Department of Defence, Bureau of
Meteorology, Geoscience Australia, NZ Fire Services, Australian
Local Government Association, NSW Symbology Working Group.”
“Spatial Vision applied a consultative approach and
has created an enduring framework with potential for implementation
throughout Australia. The potential contribution to more effective
management of natural hazards will be of great economic and
social value.”
Spatial Vision’s Managing Director was also awarded
the Victorian Spatial Professional of the Year award in recognition
of his contribution to the industry.
