Press Release -4th August 2008
Spatial Vision is pleased to announce that it has negotiated a three year “Whole of Victorian Government (WoVG)” licence covering the use of the popular Vicmap Books series in digital form. This licence allows agencies to obtain a copy and utilise these digital map images in their GIS, websites and to produce map products.
The Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) through Spatial Information Infrastructure has established and funded the Victorian Government licence with Spatial Vision. The licence is for ongoing use of the existing products created by Spatial Vision as well as new Vicmap Books created over the next three years.
The digital map images, known as Vicmap Book Image, comprise a high quality 1:100,000 statewide seamless topographic map, a series of 1:50,000 maps for scheduled areas of the state and detailed township maps. The images are ready to load into GIS and web mapping systems.
The comprehensive WoVG licence covers Government Departments, a range of agencies, all Local Government Councils, Catchment Management Authorities, Universities, TAFEs, schools, and emergency services including Red Cross and St Johns Ambulance.
According to Glenn Cockerton, Managing Director of Spatial Vision, the licence ensures all Vic Government agencies are on the same page, that is, a common and up to date map on which to operate.
