In the last few years and in partnership with RMIT, Spatial Vision has development expertise in the spatial modeling research component of the peri-urban environment.   This culminated in the “Scenario Planning for Melbourne’s Peri-Urban Region” publication released in August 2011.  What has become apparent is the need to expand the current analysis framework so that a range of alternative (better) future scenarios can be modeled. 

The State Government has suffered in the past from a fragmented approach to regional planning in Melbourne’s peri-urban region.  By approaching the issues that face the peri-urban region as a whole, it is envisaged that this new work will better inform Government policy and decision making.   At the same time, RMIT and Spatial Vision hope to strengthen their joint research capacity in this area. 

In response to the need for more work to be done, Spatial Vision has appointed Bill Fish in a full-time capacity, to manage the peri-urban program.  Bill has a keen interest in this area and is currently studying a Post Graduate Diploma in Planning at RMIT.  Bill returns to Spatial Vision after one year working with an environmental consultancy.
