Our consultants effectively engage with stakeholders, identify business requirements and provide genuine answers to real business problems. Spatial Vision has a small highly professional team of consultants who leverage their varied professional experiences and technical expertise to identify, create and document our customers’ information needs and solutions. Our consulting services include:

  • Corporate information management plans and spatial strategies
  • Business cases and feasibility studies
  • Application requirements including functional needs and architecture
  • Independent reviews of web and desktop GIS products, including commercial and open source offerings
  • Project management from design to solution delivery

The Business Analyst will be a member of the Consulting team and at times work within the Application Development team.
Spatial Vision has developed its own Information Delivery methodology that is consistent with the IEEE standard for application development. Spatial Vision’s project management methodology is Prince2 compliant.

PRIMARY PURPOSES OF POSITION

  • Evaluate business needs, and contribute to the design and development of IT based business solutions. These solutions may include spatial data and technologies
  • Elicit customer requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site observations, business process mapping, use cases, scenarios, task and workflow analysis
  • Prepare reports for customers including Business Cases, Business Process Improvements, Business Requirements, Functional Requirements, System Requirements, Test Plans
  • Work closely with developers and end users to ensure technical compatibility and user satisfaction, undertake application testing, write user manuals, provide training to users of a new system
  • Contribute to development of project proposals for customers

DUTIES
Consulting

  • Elicit customer requirements using various engagement techniques and analysis of processes and documentation
  • Identify and document Business Cases, Business Process Improvements, Business Requirements, Functional Requirements, System Requirements, Test Plans
  • Support consulting projects through provision of written plans, strategies, specifications and reports
  • Provide specific input on designated projects as required
  • Implement quality assurance principles

Solution Delivery

  • Work closely with developers to design and deliver solutions to meet user satisfaction, including solution design, application testing, writing user manuals, delivering user training

Business Development

  • Prepare or support development of project proposals

Professional Development

  • Continue to develop consulting skills i.e. information elicitation, engagement techniques and documentation writing
  • Learning the SV project delivery methodology and becoming familiar with Prince2
  • Keep abreast of industry best practice and relevant technology trends including spatial technologies, Social Media, Open Source technologies and Open Standards.
  • Become conversant with the firm’s Business Management System and performance criteria for projects

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Proven analytical skills including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements.
  • Demonstrable experience in eliciting business requirements for design of IT based business solutions. Experience using some or all of the following techniques: interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site observations, business process mapping, use cases, scenarios, task and workflow analysis
  • At least four-five years practical experience in the design and implementation of technology solutions, preferably with spatial elements
  • At least two years professional experience undertaking business analysis role
  • Demonstrable experience in preparing concise, high quality reports including business cases and requirements, and functional requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts
  • Professional experience in a one or more domain areas, such as local government, emergency management, environmental management, land management or natural resource management but not exclusively these
  • Interest in keeping abreast with new technologies
  • Tertiary qualifications

LOCATION
The position is primarily based at Spatial Vision’s Melbourne office (Level 2, 170 Queen Street, Melbourne) but may require temporary short-term assignment to client’s offices in Melbourne.  Brief travel to client’s offices anywhere in Australia may be necessary from time to time.
