CFA Region and Group Map Products

E-mail Print
Client: Luke Corbett, Country Fire Authority, Victoria

Victoria’s Country Fire Authority (CFA) is one of the world’s largest volunteer-based emergency services.  CFA is responsible for fire prevention and suppression activities on private land outside the metropolitan area.  CFA brigades respond to a range of different incidents and our broader activities include community education and fire investigation.

CFA divide the State into 20 Regions, which are further divided into between 5 and 10 CFA Administrative Groups per Region.

High quality and suitable map products are an essential tool in the fire prevention and suppression effort.   Three key map products frequently used by CFA in its fire management activities include suitable map books, with a supporting version of this available in digital form, CFA Group based maps, and CFA Regional wall maps.

CFA Head Office commissioned Spatial Vision to produce a suitable range of CFA Group and Regional wall map products to support its fire management operations. The resultant maps products range from simple laminated maps at A0 page size to large wall mounted maps with a metal backing to support operational use.

The CFA Group and Regional wall map products are produced using the same map base as that used in the new Spatial Vision VicMap book.  These map books have been produced by Spatial Vision in collaboration with CFA and the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment.

Map products generally have a map scale equivalent to that of the  source map book pages on which they draw, which is either 1:100 000 or 1:50 000.

The maps include CFA specific information including CFA Group and Regional boundaries, brigade names, Total Fire Ban regions, and enlarged compass roses on firetowers.

The map product series will progressively be prepared for the entire state now that the new Spatial Vision VicMap book has complete state coverage.  The new Spatial Vision VicMap book series on which the products are based replaces the old CFA Region map books produced by the CFA.
