Spatial Support for Catchment Condition Reporting

E-mail Print
Client: Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority

The Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority (GB CMA) comprises of the Goulburn and Broken river catchments and is part of the Murray River Basin. The catchment covers 2.3 million ha or 10.5% of Victoria. The GB CMA, through its Catchment Management Strategy, provides strategic direction for biodiversity management through a set of whole-of-catchment biodiversity targets.  These targets are also the means by which GB CMA evaluates performance through its Catchment Condition Reporting framework. The key natural resource issues being addressed in the CMA include water quality, dryland salinity, native vegetation decline, biodiversity and pest plants and animals.

Spatial Vision was commissioned to gather relevant spatial information and provide spatial analysis support as inputs to the preparation of a Biodiversity Condition Report for the CMA.

Spatial Vision collated information from a variety of sources, managed the data within a structured project library and provided spatial analysis and non-spatial (tabular) information development to support the GB CMA project team. Spatial Vision also produced a series of high quality maps and related area statements for sub-catchment and Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) zones for the entire region.  Spatial Vision’s understanding of, and extensive experience in using, the key biodiversity databases assisted significantly in the development of the specific information outcomes required by GB CMA.

Spatial Vision identified data sources, accessed information, prepared statistics and maps, and produced an extensive database to determine the extent and quality of vegetation cover in the region required for the Biodiversity Condition Report.  The collated and derived information was provided to GB CMA on DVD along with a summary of the key inputs and processes that went into the development of each information product.
