Spatial Vision has released the much anticipated 2nd Edition South East Region Vicmap Book. Extensively reviewed by CFA brigades and featuring the latest government data. The new book will provide an eagerly awaited update for emergency services and outdoor enthusiasts.
The map book covers some of Victoria’s most beautiful destinations and including Gippsland Lakes, Alpine, Baw Baw, Croajingalong, Tarra Bulga, and Wilsons Promontory National Parks.
A new process in the production of the 2nd Edition has been the introduction of field checking by the CFA. This exercise involves hundreds of check maps being sent out to CFA brigades where members apply their local knowledge.
“CFA, DSE and Spatial Vision have worked together to significantly improve the new map book series. We are very proud of the new South East map book which will support the CFA in protecting Victorian communities and their livelihoods,” said Glenn Cockerton, Managing Director of Spatial Vision.
One of the key differences between this process and previous CFA map checking activities is that updates (especially those related to roads) have been incorporated into the State’s map base, and are therefore available to all users (including the ESTA 000 Emergency Dispatch System).
“The South East Region CFA brigades have been very proactive throughout the development of this map book and this has definitely resulted in a much improved publication for the emergency services as well as the many business and recreational users”, said Michael Black, Vicmap Book Manager.
One of the findings of the 2003 Victorian Bushfire Inquiry undertaken by the Office of the Emergency Services Commissioner (OESC) was concern over the lack of a common topographic map base being used by various emergency service agencies - an issue that has been addressed through the publication of the Vicmap Books’ in both hardcopy and digital form.
The new South East Vicmap Book is the fifth and final of the 2nd Edition series and is now available at http://www.svmaps.com.au/.
