Victoria Police purchase Digital Version of Spatial Vision's Vicmap books.

E-mail Print

Victoria Police has purchased an Enterprise License for the state-wide version of Spatial Vision's Vicmap Book. Victoria Police has purchased two versions of the Vicmap book product. The first is the ECW version of the mapbook, provided to the Police as a single, state-wide ECW image for distribution and use as a backdrop within the Police corporate GIS.

In addition to the ECW files, Police also purchased pdf versions of the mapbook. PDFs allow the mapbook images to be distributed through Victoria Police so that the mapbook is readily accessible to staff that do not have access to GIS.

Acting Inspector Jacqui Carter, Manager GIS Services says that the Spatial Vision Vicmap Book data complements the existing road data and provides detailed coverage in remote areas of the state. Operational staff are now able to access and print the pdf pages to assist them with their activities.

"In the past we used the bulky, paper-based printed maps. Having the maps available electronically improves information accessibility for members. In addition, using the same set of maps as other emergency response agencies ensures Victoria Police will be able to collaborate and communicate more effectively with other agencies. These pdf maps are particularly valued by areas within Victoria Police that cover the entire state such as the Air Wing, Search and Rescue and Emergency Response Officers." Acting Inspector Carter said.
