Industry and Investment NSW (I&I NSW) is responsible for the management of wild harvest fisheries in NSW. Commercial fishers are required to report to I&I NSW details of their fishing activities including catch and effort. This catch records data is used by I&I NSW to monitor harvest rates and quota usage, and to inform the development and implementation of management arrangements. Catch records are also matched to fish receiver records for compliance auditing purposes.
In 2008, as phase one of the Catch Record Reform Project, I&I NSW contracted Spatial Vision to develop the Catch Records and Quota Management System. Key features of the system include:
- Catch and effort returns management
- Quota management
- Compliance management
- Reporting
The system was designed to support high volume data entry and includes an interface to an existing licensing system and integrates with I&I NSW’s corporate reporting and authentication systems. The extensible architecture and services implemented for the application will form the foundation for the development of future phases of the reform project.
The application was successfully deployed for production use in May 2009 and continues to be supported by Spatial Vision.
